AM I A CANDIDATE FOR LASER SKIN REJUVENATION?

There are multiple factors to consider when deciding which method of laser skin resurfacing procedure is right for your skin. Laser skin resurfacing is ideal for anyone who is unhappy with their skin's appearance. If you see sun damage, age spots, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, or redness concerns, this procedure may be needed to improve these cosmetic flaws. In addition, it works well for patients who have a rough texture, scaly patches, or other irregularities. Laser skin resurfacing is not suggested for anyone who has very dark skin tones or active acne. Also, it is important to know that there is downtime associated with laser therapy. Some patients, depending on the condition of their skin, may require as much as 2 – 3 weeks to fully recover.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A LASER PEEL

Laser skin rejuvenation can help decrease the appearance of sun-damaged skin, age spots, acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, redness, dry skin, and pigmentation issues. Unfortunately, this treatment does not work well for patients with dark skin tones or active acne. Depending on the severity of your skin issues, we will select from an ablative, non-ablative, and fractional laser. Offering a variety of benefits, each laser type requires a certain amount of recovery time and may cause discomfort. During your consultation, we will discuss the laser types in detail, create a personalized treatment plan, provide a retinoid cream to prepare your skin, and review aftercare instructions. On the day of your procedure, you may also receive medication to help you stay relaxed.

We will start by cleaning the treatment area, and if needed, a numbing cream is applied to the skin. Next, one of our team members will gently glide the specialized device over the complexion. As the laser targets damaged and dead skin cells, you will feel some heat and a blast of cold air to reduce discomfort. After completing the procedure, you will experience swelling, irritation, and peeling. The peeling may last for 3 – 5 days. For more intense laser peels, patients may have a longer recovery and additional discomfort. No matter the type of peel, you should avoid picking at your peeling skin, and you should always wear sun protection. Once your skin has fully healed, your complexion should appear rejuvenated, younger, and clearer.

What's the best type of skin rejuvenation for me?

Our team can help you decide which laser rejuvenation option is best for your needs and goals during your consultation. The best treatment for you will depend on the health and condition of your skin, your skin problems, and how deep you want your treatment to go. How long you are willing to give your recovery might also be an important factor when choosing your treatment type. If you are in doubt, it's best to try a milder treatment to see how you like your results and decide if you want something stronger for your second appointment.

How can I help my skin recover after a rejuvenation treatment?

A member of our team will recommend ways to help your skin heal after a rejuvenation treatment. The most important rule is don't peel or pick your skin. This can cause lasting damage like scars. You need to forgo all hair removal methods on the treated skin, which include waxing, shaving, or depilatory creams. We can recommend a cream to help soothe treated areas.

How often should I get laser rejuvenation treatments?

Based on the resurfacing options you and a member of our team choose for your treatment, you might need to wait a few weeks or even a few months between appointments.
